Top Changes Coming to Dubai This August 2026
A New Electric Bus Line Opens Across JLT
From August 1, Jumeirah Lakes Towers gets its own dedicated transport service. JLT Link is a new fully electric bus network running two loops across the neighbourhood’s clusters, connecting residents and office workers directly to the Dubai Metro. Loop 1 covers western JLT, clusters A to N, and feeds into DMCC Metro Station every 30 minutes. Loop 2 covers eastern JLT, clusters O to Z, and runs to Sobha Realty Metro Station every 20 minutes Between the two routes, the service covers 13 stops.
Each ride costs Dh3, paid through the dedicated JLT Link app rather than a Nol card — passengers top up their balance in the app and scan a QR code at the stop before boarding. No booking is needed; you just show up and catch the next bus. The service replaces JLT’s existing internal bus operation and runs on four electric buses, each seating 23 people with low-entry access and a wheelchair space.
Operating hours run 6.30am to 9.30pm Monday to Saturday, and 9.30am to 12.30am on Sundays. For anyone tired of driving five minutes to the Metro station or walking it in the August heat, this is a genuinely useful addition rather than a cosmetic one.
Nad Al Sheba Gets Its First Community Mall
The Grand, developed by Shamal Holding inside Nad Al Sheba Gardens, opens its doors in phases from Wednesday August 19. It’s fully leased ahead of launch and anchored by the first Waitrose & Partners store in Nad Al Sheba, alongside MMI, Heart Cottage Lane, Maple Bear Nursery, Al Jaber Optical and Fixperts on opening day.
A second wave follows from early September — Tashas, Somewhere Home Bakery, Kokoro, Blu Pizzeria, Bake My Day, Daima, Staywell Pharmacy and Tips & Toes among them — with Fitcode and an American Hospital clinic rounding out the site’s health and wellness offering in early 2027. The mall sits roughly ten minutes from Downtown Dubai and, despite serving a residential community, will be open to non-residents too.
The Summer’s Biggest Sales Reach Their Final Weeks
Two major retail campaigns run their course this month: the Great Dubai Summer Sale, with discounts of up to 90 percent across participating brands, and the Back to School sale, covering uniforms, stationery and electronics. Both run Monday August 3 to Sunday August 30, which leaves the whole month to shop but also means the best stock tends to disappear well before the closing date.
Given the new term starts before the month is even over, this is really the only real window to handle both the summer wardrobe clearout and the school-supplies run in one pass.
The Dhs10 Dishes Deal Returns
One of Dubai Summer Surprises’ most-loved promotions is back for another year. The 10 Dirham Dish runs Monday August 3 to Sunday August 30, letting diners try a signature dish from participating restaurants for Dhs10 a plate. Last year’s edition covered more than 190 restaurants, and this year’s line-up is expected to stretch across more than 600 outlets citywide.
The full restaurant list hadn’t gone live at the time of writing — it typically posts on the official Dubai Summer Surprises site a few days before the promotion opens, so it’s worth checking closer to August 3 before mapping out a route.
A Public Holiday Breaks Up the Month
Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (PBUH) falls on Tuesday August 25 this year, the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal on the Islamic calendar. Under the UAE’s public holiday transfer rules, midweek observances can shift toward the start or end of the working week, and the actual day off is expected to land on Monday August 24 instead.
Combined with the regular weekend, that adds up to a three-day break for most residents, longer still for public sector staff on a flexible summer schedule. As with every Islamic date, official confirmation only comes after moon-sighting, so treat August 24 as the likely date rather than the confirmed one.
Dubai Sports World Wraps Up for the Year
Dubai’s free indoor sports pop-up at Dubai World Trade Centre closes out its 16th edition on Tuesday August 25, having opened back on June 19. This year’s run spans more than 40 courts across Za’abeel Halls 2–6 and nine sports — football, basketball, padel, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, badminton, cricket and pickleball.
There’s also a free 1km indoor jogging track, a full gym, and a dedicated kids’ zone with soft play, trampolines and an arts corner. If it’s been on the to-do list all summer, the final week before August 25 is the last real chance to use it.

Dubai Summer Surprises Closes Out Its 29th Edition
The wider festival behind several of these deals wraps on Sunday August 30, after running since July 2. Alongside the Dhs10 dishes, August brings the tail end of Summer Restaurant Week, the ongoing Beat the Heat DXB concert series, and the DSS Mega Raffles, which continue into mid-September in partnership with ENOC.
Shoppers spending Dhs500 or more at participating outlets are entered into a citywide draw covering more than 3,500 retail outlets, with prizes including several new homes. Whatever the draw, this is the closing stretch — after August 30, it’s gone until next summer.
The New School Year Begins
The UAE Ministry of Education has confirmed the 2026–2027 academic year starts Monday August 31, under the officially announced national curriculum calendar. That applies to public schools and to private schools following the MOE framework, though individual KHDA-regulated schools keep some flexibility on term structure and may run a phased return for early years and primary pupils.
With the term landing right at the end of August, expect school-run traffic to build noticeably before the month is out, right as the Back to School sales hit their final days.

Stack these together and August turns into one of Dubai’s busier transition months: a new transport line lands on day one, a mall opens mid-month, a holiday weekend follows shortly after, and then several of summer’s biggest promotions and events close out within days of the new school term starting.
